http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholic_sex_abuse_cases The 2004 John Jay Report[14] was based on a study of 10,667 allegations against 4,392 priests accused of engaging in sexual abuse of a minor between 1950 and 2002. The report stated there were approximately 10,667 reported victims (younger than 18 years) of clergy sexual abuse during this period: Around 81% of these victims were male. 22.6% were age 10 or younger, 51% were between the ages of 11 and 14, and 27% were between the ages to 15 to 17 years.[15][16][17] A substantial number (almost 2000) of very young children were victimized by priests during this time period. 9,281 victim surveys had information about an investigation. In 6,696 (72%) cases, an investigation of the allegation was carried out. Of these, 4,570 (80%) were substantiated; 1,028 (18%) were unsubstantiated; 83 (1.5%) were found to be false. In 56 cases, priests were reported to deny the allegations. More than 10 percent of these allegations were characterized as not substantiated. (This does not mean that the allegation was false; it means only that the diocese or order could not determine whether the alleged abuse actually took place.) For approximately 20 percent of the allegations, the priest was deceased or inactive at the time of the receipt of the allegation and typically no investigation was conducted in these circumstances. In 38.4% of allegations, the abuse is alleged to have occurred within a single year, in 21.8% the alleged abuse lasted more than a year but less than 2 years, in 28% between 2 and 4 years, in 10.2% between 5 and 9 years and, in under 1%, 10 or more years. The 4,392 priests who were accused amount to approximately 4% of the 109,694 priests in active ministry during that time. Of these 4,392, approximately: 56 percent had one reported allegation against them; 27 percent had two or three allegations against them; nearly 14 percent had four to nine allegations against them; 3 percent (149 priests) had 10 or more allegations against them. These 149 priests were responsible for almost 3,000 victims, or 27 percent of the allegations.[15] The allegations were substantiated for 1,872 priests and unsubstantiated for 824 priests. They were thought to be credible for 1,671 priests and not credible for 345 priests. 298 priests and deacons who had been completely exonerated are not included in the study. 50 percent were 35 years of age or younger at the time of the first instance of alleged abuse.[15] Almost 70 percent were ordained before 1970.[15] Fewer than 7 percent were reported to have themselves been victims of physical, sexual or emotional abuse as children. Although 19 percent had alcohol or substance abuse problems, 9 percent were reported to have been using drugs or alcohol during the instances of abuse.[15] Many of the reported acts of sexual abuse involved fondling or unspecified abuse. There was also a large number of allegations of forced acts of oral sex and intercourse. Detailed information on the nature of the abuse was not reported for 26.6% of the reported allegations. 27.3% of the allegations involved the cleric performing oral sex on the victim. 25.1% of the allegations involved penile penetration or attempted penetration. Although there were reported acts of sexual abuse of minors in every year, the incidence of reported abuse increased by several orders of magnitude in the 1960s and 1970s. There was, for example, a more than sixfold increase in the number of reported acts of abuse of males aged 11 to 17 between the 1950s and the 1970s. After peaking in the 1970s, the number of incidents decreased through the 1980s and 1990s even more sharply than the incidence rate had increased in the 1960s and 1970s. |

Daca uram pacatul in general, nu putem face concesii si nu putem acoperi sub pres pacatele mari care se fac in lume pentru a le descoperi pe cele ale preotilor. Pacatul e pacat indiferent cine l-ar savarsi. |

A Call for a Reporting Policy on Sexual Abuse in the Orthodox Church The Greek Orthodox Church has certainly been affected by such scandals, as the headlines of national newspapers and Internet websites will attest. The National Herald reported recently that that "the Holy Synod [of the Orthodox Church] is preparing to discuss old sexual scandals that have reemerged, according to high-ranking ecclesiastical officials at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. Individuals have already contacted the archdiocese asking for monetary compensation in [the] millions of dollars." http://sofiaecho.com/2010/12/23/1016...abuse-cover-up When Father Goran Arsic was finally asked to testify before a commission investigating allegations that a bishop had sexually abused children, he had high hopes the church would confront the scandal head-on. Until now, even the existence of the specially-convened commission, let alone its findings, has remained a closely-guarded secret. That the commission was led by the recently-enthroned Patriarch has also been kept from the public. http://yya.oca.org/thehub/articles/T...xual_abuse.htm It is time for the church family to bring sexual abuses out of the closet, to face this problem, and to move forward rebuilding the shattered image of the family of God when such abuses occur. Overt sexual harassment, sexual assault, rape, molestation, incest all happen in the Orthodox Church. http://www.eurotopics.net/en/home/pr...n-sex-scandals Adevărul - Romania | Friday, July 29, 2011 Orthodox Church two-faced on sex scandals The police broke up a pimping ring in Bucharest in early July that was offering underage rent boys. Investigations by the daily Adevărul have revealed that a priest from the Romanian Orthodox Church in Bucharest was allegedly involved in the scandal. The newspaper writes that the Orthodox Church should look to the Catholic Church as an example: "Allegations of sex scandals within the Church are either rejected or completely ignored. ... This is a two-faced discourse: during the day, cloaked in their cassocks the priests demonize homosexuality, in the evenings they practice 'this activity' that they themselves have condemned. ... http://religionblog.dallasnews.com/a...h-settles.html Sam Hodges reports that a lawsuit alleging child sex abuse by Nicholas Katinas, former pastor of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in North Dallas, is headed for an out-of-court settlement. The amount of the settlement is confidential. Katinas was pastor of Holy Trinity, a key institution of the Dallas Greek community, for 28 years until his retirement in 2006. etc. |

Archimandrite Stanley R. Adamakis
Aliases: Stan Adamakis Stan Adams Convicted, Sanctioned, Sued Archimandrite Stanley Adamakis was a priest in the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America (GOA). As a boy, Fr. Stanley was at altar server at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Boston. Archbishop Iakovos Coucouzis was the priest at the cathedral at that time, and the archbishop later ordained Fr. Stanley to the priesthood. Fr. Stanley was convicted in 1986 of molesting two adolescent boys in Torrance, California. He was sentenced to seventy-eight days in jail. While still on probation for that offense, Fr. Stanley molested two additional boys he met through an Episcopal Church youth group in Hermosa Beach, California. He pleaded guilty to the new charges in March, 1990, and was sentenced to nine years and eight months in prison -- eight years for the probation violation and an additional twenty months on the new charges of sexual battery and child molestation. The priest spent the next seven years in prison. When the second set of charges was filed, Metropolitan Anthony Gergiannakis, the GOA bishop for California at the time, said a defrockment action had been pending against Fr. Stanley for more than a year, ”stemming from repeated, but never substantiated, allegations of 'sexual misbehavior'.” The Metropolitan also said that Fr. Stanley ”had been forced to leave posts in Montreal and Albuquerque because of unproven molestation allegations.” Fr. Stanley was returned to the status of a layman by the GOA on March 20, 1990. A lawsuit for sexual abuse was filed in Albuquerque, New Mexico, against Fr. Stanley R. Adamakis and the GOA on July 1, 1993. The plaintiff and the GOA filed a joint motion for dismissal with prejudice a little over a year later, when the plaintiff received a settlement for an undisclosed amount. (D.L.S. v. Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, Case #D-202-CV-9306214) On July 20, 2003, when Adamakis was 61 years old, he was murdered by a 24 year old man. Adamakis had a sexual relationship with this young man. A law enforcement source said that the relationship between the two men began around the time that Adamakis was released from state prison. Another civil suit against Fr. Stanley Adamakis and the GOA was filed in California. That suit was reportedly settled for $1 million in January of 2007. Fr. Stanley served in the following GOA parishes: St. George GOC (Albuquerque NM): 1972-74 Evangelismos GOC (Easton PA): 1978-79 St. Nicholas GOC (Newburgh, NY): ? These parishes are in the Metropolis of Denver, the Metropolis of Pittsburgh, and the Archdiocesan District, respectively. Fr. Stanley had also served at a parish in Montreal, Canada. |
Archimandrite Gabriel Barrow
Sanctioned Archimandrite Gabriel Barrow Archimandrite Gabriel Barrow was a priest in the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America(GOA), Metropolis of Denver. He was suspended from the priesthood by the GOA on March 4, 2004, and defrocked on February 22, 2005, for the sexual abuse of teenaged boys. Prior to being received into the GOA in 1995, Barrow was a priest in the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America (AA). He was first accused of sexual misconduct with boys in 1977 while he was serving at St. Elias Church in Sylvania, Ohio. Barrow was subsequently suspended by the AA, and sometime afterward moved to Houston. St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in Houston lists Barrow among the ”attached and retired” clergy who served at their parish. In 1995 Barrow began serving at a GOA parish in Webster, Texas, St. John the Theologian Greek Orthodox Church. He was made an archimandrite by Metropolitan Isaiah Chronopoulos of the GOA's Metropolis of Denver in March, 2000. Another victim from Ohio reported to the AA in May of 2000 that he had been sexually abused by Barrow when he was a teen. The AA bishop, Antoun Khouri, said that Barrow was no longer under the jurisdiction of the AA. However, the bishop wrote to Chronopoulos and Archbishop Demetrios Trakatellis, the head of the GOA, several days later and told them about the allegations. In August of 2003 yet another Ohio victim came forward, this time by giving a written statement to the GOA about his sexual abuse as a teenager by Barrow. The victim who reported to the AA in 2000, and whose allegations had been forwarded to Chronopoulos and Trakatellis that same year, also gave a written statement to the GOA in December of 2003. As noted above, Barrow was suspended by the GOA in March of 2004. Both men who had given written statements to the GOA testified at the spiritual court proceeding. Barrow was defrocked the following year. In September of 2009, the Houston police executed a search warrant on Barrow's house, his place of business, and his person. The warrant alleged that Barrow was in possession of child pornography. Barrow attended St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary, which belongs to the Orthodox Church in America (OCA). At the Fifth All American Council of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) in October of 1977, Barrow received one vote for metropolitan of the OCA. It is unclear whether this was before or after his suspension by the AA. Barrow worked in the Houston Independent School District (HISD) for 25 years. According to the Houston Chronicle he started work as a teacher in 1979, 2 years after his suspension by the AA. He was transferred to the central office in 1988. Barrow was an instructional supervisor in 2004, working with teachers rather than students, when news of the allegations against him became public. An HISD investigation found no cause to remove him from this position, and Barrow retired as planned in May, 2004. |
Deacon George P. Bithos
Sanctioned Deacon George P. Bithos George P. Bithos is a deacon in the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, Metropolis of Denver. Bithos, who is also a retired dentist, was suspended in 2010 after a woman made a written complaint to Metropolitan Isaiah Chronopoulos alleging that Blithos had fondled her breasts while she was under nitrous oxide in 1982. At the time, both Bithos and the woman attended Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Dallas, Texas. Bithos has denied the allegations. The suspension was lifted without explanation in September, 2010. |

Cardinalul a identificat patru cauze care explica acest gen de comportament: "Atat problema formarii preotilor cat si urmarile revolutiei sexuale a generatiei 1968. Atat tema celibatului cat si tema dezvoltarii personale". |
