"The word god is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honourable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish. No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this." Conform acestei declaratii, se pare ca era deist: "I believe in Spinoza's God who reveals himself in the orderly harmony of what exists, not in a God who concerns himself with the fates and actions of human beings." |

Ia intreaba-l! |
Citat:
"A knowledge of the existence of something we cannot penetrate, of the manifestations of the profoundest reason and the most radiant beauty - it is this knowledge and this emotion that constitute the truly religious attitude; in this sense, and in this alone, I am a deeply religious man." "The most beautiful and most profound experience is the sensation of the mystical. It is the sower of all true science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead. To know that what is impenetrable to us really exists, manifesting itself as the highest wisdom and the most radiant beauty which our dull faculties can comprehend only in their primitive forms - this knowledge, this feeling is at the center of true religiousness." "My religiosity consists in a humble admiration of the infinitely superior spirit (un spirit infinit superior) that reveals itself in the little that we, with our weak and transitory understanding, can comprehend of reality." "I see a pattern, but my imagination cannot picture the maker of that pattern. I see a clock, but I cannot envision the clockmaker. The human mind is unable to conceive of the four dimensions, so how can it conceive of a God, before whom a thousand years and a thousand dimensions are as one?" "In the view of such harmony in the cosmos which I, with my limited human mind, am able to recognise, there are yet people who say there is no God. But what makes me really angry is that they quote me for support for such views. (The Expanded Quotable Einstein, Princeton University Press, p. 214)" "It is clear also that "serving God" was equated with "serving the living". The best of the Jewish people, especially the Prophets and Jesus, contended tirelessly for this. Judaism is thus no transcendental religion; it is concerned with life as we live it and as we can, to a certain extent, grasp it, and nothing else. It seems to me, therefore, doubtful whether it can be called a religion in the accepted sense of the word, particularly as no "faith" but the sanctification of life in a supra-personal sense is demanded of the Jew." " When the great physicist Albert Einstein was asked if he believed in God, he responded: “We are in the position of a little child entering a huge library filled with books in many languages. The child knows someone must have written those books. It does not know how. . . . That, it seems to me, is the attitude of even the most intelligent human beings toward God. We see the universe marvelously arranged and obeying certain laws but only dimly understand these laws.” Although Einstein marveled at the design he saw in nature, he did not believe in a personal Creator. " |
Uite si altele:
" Einstein read the bibles, Old and New Testaments, regularly. He enjoyed the historical and spiritual aspects of the books in question particularly the New Testament. He loved reading the Gospels chiefly because Jesus fascinated him. In fact, when reading the Gospels, Einstein could feel the 'Presence' of Jesus. We read these in "Einstein: a Life", by Brian, Denis (a good biography). The biographer somewhere in the book is talking about an interview with Einstein that had taken place earlier; and he quotes some of it. In it the interviewer is asking Einstein about his attitude to religion especially Christianity. Later, in the end, he is asking the great man an important question: "Do you accept the historical existence of Jesus?" Einstein replies: 'Unquestionably! No one can read the Gospels without feeling the actual presence of Jesus. His personality pulsates in every word. No myth is filled with such life'. (pp. 278-279) Spiritually, very strong words indeed! '... the actual presence of Jesus .... His personality pulsates in every word ....'. It is a kind of language that tells us that Einstein was 'touched' by Jesus, the Christ. Einstein sometimes also used to attend a certain church in New York City in order that he could hear something about Jesus and His Healing Power. Christian Science Church (a Church founded by Mrs Mary Baker Eddy) traditionally has, once a week, their 'testimony meeting'; it is on Wednesdays. It is a day that people go to listen to a number of persons who, each at a time, tell the audience about their spiritual experiences, mostly about their being healed from illnesses or being freed from stresses and strains of life through the Love of Christ and His Healing Power. The great man, Einstein, would go and sit among the audience to listen to these spiritual testimonies. One day as he was leaving the church, one of the members greeted him. Einstein looked at him and said, "Do you people realize what a wonderful thing you have?" (See Robert Peel, 'Spiritual Healing in a Scientific Age", p.28) Although he was born and lived and died as a Jew, Einstein developed a personal relationship with Jesus. Yes, Einstein was not 'just a spiritual' but 'very much a spiritual' man, and deep in his heart, he was truly a religious man. " |
