Lucifer apare pentru prima dată în versiunea masoretică a textului, într-un pasaj din Isaia 14:12-17:
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
în loc de
How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! 13 You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far north; 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will make myself like the Most High.
În primul rând, nu e vorba de niciun înger câzut acolo, ci de regele Babilonului. Așadar aflăm că
nu știm nimic despre diavol și că el nu e un înger căzut din mândrie.
Lucifer e nume latin, biblia a fost scrisă de evrei în dialectul ebraic. Deci e clar că e doar o invenție, o eroare de traducere din anul 405:
