DELUSIONS HARM US FOR A LONG TIME

All our external enemies, no matter who they are, are unable to remain our enemies forever.

However, the inner enemy of delusion has harmed us since beginningless time and, if we do not defeat it during this present lifetime, it will continue to harm us for infinite lifetimes to come.

FOLLOWING DELUSIONS AS IF THEY WERE FRIENDS IS UNWISE

We can turn an ordinary, external enemy into our friend merely by agreeing with him and entrusting ourself to him.

If we do this he will return joy and benefit to us and will cease to harm us.

However, if we make friends with and entrust ourself to the inner enemy of delusions it will only cause us more suffering and pain in the future.

Therefore we must never regard a delusion as our friend.

BEING PATIENT WITH DELUSIONS IS UNWISE

Delusions are my worst enemy and have the longest duration;

They are the principal cause increasing my suffering, fear and misery
As long as this enemy dwells within my heart, how can I remain without fear and be joyful while still in samsara?

Delusions are the guards of this prison of samsara.

They cast me into hell and butcher and torture me incessantly

As long as the net of delusions is permanently spread in my mind, how shall I ever experience happiness?

For me to remain patiently under the influence of self-grasping is a source of great shame.

This is no time to be patient!

If all the gods, demi-gods and sentient beings throughout the universe were to rise up against me as one enemy they would only be able to harm me during my present lifetime.

They do not have the power to lead me to the roaring fires of the deepest hell and throw me in.

However, the power of the delusions is such that it can instantly cast me into the flames of hell, flames so strong that they can reduce Mount Meru to a heap of ashes.
