Monasticismul crestin a luat nastere in sec III in Egipt, parintele lui fiind Sf. Antonie cel Mare.Monasticismul in adevaratul sens al cuvantului(mai multi calugari sa locuiasca sub acelasi acoperis sub indrumarea unui conducator,manastiri,etc) ii este atribuit Sf. Pachomius,tot un egiptean... In Egipt se pare ca se formase un nucleu destul de solid al misionarilor budisti, pana la acea vreme(sec III)... De acolo si unele influente de tip budiste inca din crestinismul primar din Egypt cum ar fi reincarnarea(vezi evanghelia lui Toma, evanghelia gnostica a lui Marcu, etc).. Sa fie doar coincidente?Eu nu cred.. si monasticismul crestin s-a inspirat tot din budism..
