"Domnul a spus: 'Să nu-i opriţi de la Mine' să vină dar la Domnul când se fac mari, să vină când deja pot învăţa, când vor înţelege la cine trebuie să meargă; atunci să devină creştini când îl pot cunoaşte pe Hristos. Această vârstă inocentă de ce s-ar grăbi pentru iertarea păcatelor? Oare, legea civila să fie mai prudentă faţă de prunci că nu le dă în sarcină administrarea de bunuri pământeşti, iar noi să le punem în seamă cele dumnezeieşti?(este omul mai bun decât Dumnezeu?) Cel puţin să ajungă acolo să poată fi capabili să ceară mântuirea şi să apară că i se dă aceasta unui solicitant." (Tertulian - De Baptismo cap. XVIII, 5)

Sfatul de a amâna botezul copiilor, nu înseamnă deloc combaterea lui.
Tertullian era de părere ca botezul copiilor să fie amânat. Părerea lui! Din moment ce Tertullian era de părerea aceasta, mai mult recunoaşte botezul copiilor şi a pruncilor în Biserică . El sfătuieşte daca copilul creşte nebotezat să facă o şcoală de cateheză. Asta au făcut şi Sfinţii noştri Parinţi care nu au fost botezati când erau prunci din cauza părinţilor lor.

Sfintul Hippolytus de la Roma 215 AD.

„Botezati mai intii copii; si daca pot vorbi pentru ei insusi, lasati sa vorbeasca. Daca nu, lasati pe parinti sau pe cineva din familie sa vorbeasca pentru ei.”

Dacă postaţi din Tertullian de ce nu postaţi tot ce zice despre botez?

17 To round off our slight treatment of this subject it remains for me to advise you of the rules to be observed in giving and receiving baptism. The supreme right of giving it belongs to the high priest, which is the bishop : after him, to the presbyters and deacons, yet not without commission from the bishop, on account of the Church's dignity: for when this is safe, peace is safe. Except for that, even laymen have the right: 'for that which is
received on equal terms can be given on equal terms : unless perhaps you are prepared to allege that our Lord's disciples were already bishops or presbyters or deacons: that is, as the word ought not to be hidden by any man, so likewise baptism, which is no less declared to be "of God", can be administered by all.' Yet how much rather are the rules of humility and restraint incumbent upon laymen, seeing they apply to greater persons,who must not arrogate to themselves the function of the bishop.
Opposition to the episcopate is the mother of schisms. The holy apostle has said that all things are lawful but all things are not expedient: which means it is enough that you should use <this right> in emergencies, if ever conditions of place or time or person
demand it. The boldness of a rescuer is acceptable when he is constrained to it by the necessities of the man in peril, since he will be guilty of a man's destruction if he forbears to give the help he is free and able to give.
